To celebrate the 20th Edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Embassy of Italy in Canada, the Embassy of Switzerland in Canada and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Toronto, in collaboration with Jobel Art for Earth, present an original multidisciplinary online event. The Week of Italian Language in the World is an event promoted by the cultural and diplomatic network every year in the third week of October around a theme the spearheads a vast cultural program focused on the diffusion of the Italian language. The title chosen for this year is:

Italian between words and images: graffiti, illustrations, comics

Although the current context does not yet allow us to gather in person, the arts have the power to overcome the barriers of a screen and reach our imagination. Images will be the central theme for this event. The program will start with selections from some of the most famous Italian comic book authors that will be performed by Jobel’s actors. A specific segment will highlight graffiti art through which images and words will inspire an original street dance. The final piece is a tribute to the most famous and revolutionary Italian author of children’s literature: Gianni Rodari. Live music will accompany illustrations as two actors read a selection from Rodari’s tales in English and short Italian interludes. Presented in this visually artistic style, the Italian language reveals all of its evocative and communicative potential.

The event will take place on October 23 at 12:30PM EDT, in Italian and English, via Zoom.
