{"id":2226,"date":"2021-03-29T11:33:08","date_gmt":"2021-03-29T15:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramitalia.com\/?p=2226"},"modified":"2021-03-29T11:38:30","modified_gmt":"2021-03-29T15:38:30","slug":"italians-defend-dante-from-claims-he-was-light-years-behind-shakespeare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramitalia.com\/index.php\/2021\/03\/29\/italians-defend-dante-from-claims-he-was-light-years-behind-shakespeare\/","title":{"rendered":"Italians defend Dante from claims he was &#8216;light years&#8217; behind Shakespeare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2021\/mar\/29\/italians-defend-dante-from-claims-he-was-light-years-behind-shakespeare\">The Guardian<\/a> &#8211; <strong>Leaders rally in support of \u2018father of Italian language\u2019 after withering comments in German newspaper<\/strong><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2021\/mar\/29\/italians-defend-dante-from-claims-he-was-light-years-behind-shakespeare\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.guim.co.uk\/img\/media\/aa2145dd215382770b431ad028a12960d3952793\/0_210_8256_4954\/master\/8256.jpg?width=605&amp;quality=45&amp;auto=format&amp;fit=max&amp;dpr=2&amp;s=679195d8d54c4a1b8128f03d485bb2d0\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"504\"\/><\/a><\/figure><p>Italian political and cultural leaders have sprung to the defence of their much-revered poet&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/dantealighieri\">Dante Alighieri<\/a>&nbsp;after a German newspaper downplayed his importance to the Italian language and said William Shakespeare was \u201clight years more modern\u201d.<\/p><p>In a comment piece in Frankfurter Rundschau, Arno Widmann&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fr.de\/kultur\/literatur\/dante-die-guten-ins-toepfchen-die-schlechten-ins-kroepfchen-90259881.html\">wrote<\/a>&nbsp;that even though Dante \u201cbrought the national language to great heights\u201d, Italian schoolchildren struggled to understand the antiquated verse of his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2013\/jul\/22\/divine-comedy-dante-clive-james-review\">Divine Comedy<\/a>, which was written in 1320.<\/p><p>The epic poem, which is split into three parts and traces a pilgrim\u2019s journey through hell, purgatory and heaven, was written in the vernacular Tuscan dialect to make it accessible to the masses, instead of Latin. The great poet died in Ravenna after being exiled from Florence due to his political activities. &#8220;Dante gave a lesson of coherence for everyone, politicians included, because you must not go against your conscience,&#8221; Mattarella told Corriere della Sera. &#8220;And one of the most important parts of his legacy is the dilemma between justice and compassion&#8221;. The &#8216;Supreme Poet&#8217; will be celebrated across the country with the highest-profile event being a televised reading of Canto XXV of the Paradiso by comic actor, director and Dante buff Roberto Benigni at the presidential Quirinal Palace at 19:10 in the presence of Mattarella and Culture Minister Dario Franceschini. Non \u00e8 nato a Firenze<\/strong><\/p><p>Il 25 marzo si celebra il Danted\u00ec, la Giornata nazionale dedicata a Dante Alighieri. La data coincide con il giorno in cui secondo gli studiosi ha inizio il viaggio nell\u2019aldil\u00e0 della\u00a0<em>Divina Commedia<\/em>\u00a0e quest\u2019anno coincide con la celebrazione dei 700 anni dalla sua morte. In occasione di questo appuntamento la piattaforma Skuola.net ha voluto mettere alla prova mille studenti dell\u2019ultimo triennio del liceo. I risultati? Imbarazzanti. Partiamo dalle note biografiche: 1 su 5 non ha indicato Firenze come luogo di nascita di Dante. Molti di pi\u00f9 (45%) quelli che hanno dimostrato di non sapere il luogo in cui \u00e8 morto ed \u00e8 sepolto: Ravenna.
