Others say that<a href=\"https:\/\/edepot.wur.nl\/443591\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0it could be dangerous for human health<\/a>\u00a0as maggots could survive the bite and and create myiasis, micro-perforations in the intestine, but so far, no such case has been linked to casu marzu.\u00a0The cheese is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ruminantia.it\/casu-marzu-pat-storia-di-uninfestazione-agroalimentare-tradizionale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">banned from commercial sale<\/a>, but Sardinians have been eating it, jumping grubs included, for centuries.&#8221;The maggot infestation is the spell and delight of this cheese,&#8221; says Paolo Solinas, a 29-year-old Sardinian gastronome.\u00a0He says some Sardinians cringe at the thought of casu marzu, but others raised on a lifetime of salty pecorino unabashedly love its strong flavors.&#8221;Some shepherds see the cheese as a unique personal pleasure, something that just a few elects can try,&#8221; Solinas adds.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\"><div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\">Read more here<\/a><\/div><\/div><p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CNN &#8211; The Italian island of Sardinia sits in the middle of the Tyrrhenian Sea, gazing at Italy from a distance.
