The best quality is found at the traditional&nbsp;<em>salumerie<\/em>&nbsp;and cheese shops on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.parmawelcome.it\/en\/place\/discover-parma\/what-to-see\/building-memorials\/piazza-ghiaia\/\">Piazza Ghiaia<\/a>.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/confesercentiparma\/posts\/oggi-vi-presentiamo-cibivari-una-nuova-gastronomia-che-roberta-boni-ha-da-poco-a\/1304866816335156\/\">Cibivari<\/a>, half a mile away on Strada XXII Luglio, is a bakery and deli recently opened by the dynamic Roberta Boni, using local, seasonal produce in simple home cooking \u2013 focaccia, aubergine parmigiana. Take it away for a picnic or eat in at one of the small tables.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"f20160dd-1d71-4afd-b8bd-6a4335ea1b77\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.guim.co.uk\/img\/media\/f2e52c1a19c1f20ecb98d1cf8a1334f6bdd98efa\/0_184_661_397\/master\/661.jpg?width=445&amp;quality=85&amp;dpr=1&amp;s=none\" alt=\"parma ham spot on page\"\/><figcaption><sup>\u00a0Illustration: Hennie Haworth\/the Guardian<\/sup><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>In Parma you are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ristoranteinkiostro.it\/?lang=en\">Inkiostro<\/a>\u00a0surprises me every time I go \u2013 its talented young chef, Salvatore Morello, creates exceptional fine dining menus, including a wonderful vegetarian version. For a complete contrast, try lunch (it doesn\u2019t open in the evening) at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/people\/Trattoria-DA-Antonia\/100040905883066\/\">Da Antonia<\/a>, a typical, homely trattoria: eating there is like being in a 1950s Italian movie, with the signora stirring pots from early morning, and daily dishes that include\u00a0<em>trippa<\/em>\u00a0and succulent\u00a0<em>bollito misto<\/em>.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"inspiration\"><strong>I<\/strong><strong>nspiration<\/strong><\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"44fd4dc5-0aae-4761-86a3-86b23fd52658\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.guim.co.uk\/img\/media\/2ba1dcb27f841919feb6597774682bfa15fa6dbe\/789_0_4827_3744\/master\/4827.jpg?width=445&amp;quality=85&amp;dpr=1&amp;s=none\" alt=\"Basilica di Santa Maria della Steccata in Parma.\"\/><figcaption><sup>Basilica di Santa Maria della Steccata in Parma.\u00a0Photograph: Julian Elliott Photography\/Getty Images<\/sup><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>I always find myself going back to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.parmawelcome.it\/en\/place\/discover-parma\/what-to-see\/churches\/basilica-of-st-mary-of-steccata\/\">Basilica di Santa Maria della Steccata<\/a>, where my father took me to mass when I was a child. The lavish interiors still take my breath away, and this is where my love for the baroque began. Just behind the basilica is the lesser-known\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vocineichiostri.it\/chiostro-della-chiesa-di-san-giovanni\/\">Chiostri di San Giovanni<\/a>\u00a0, a magical 10th-century monastery that is the perfect place to listen to a choral concert. And the one thing all visitors must discover is the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/complessopilotta.it\/en\/the-farnese-theatre\/\">Teatro Farnese<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 . If you can\u2019t get a ticket for a concert here, there is a good guided tour.
