{"id":6104,"date":"2023-04-24T11:38:07","date_gmt":"2023-04-24T15:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/panoramitalia.com\/?p=6104"},"modified":"2023-04-24T11:48:01","modified_gmt":"2023-04-24T15:48:01","slug":"italys-virtual-venus-tourism-campaign-faces-wave-of-criticism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/panoramitalia.com\/index.php\/2023\/04\/24\/italys-virtual-venus-tourism-campaign-faces-wave-of-criticism\/","title":{"rendered":"Italy&#8217;s virtual Venus tourism campaign faces wave of criticism"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Italy spends \u20ac9 million on &#8216;Open to meraviglia&#8217; campaign<\/strong>.<\/h4><p><strong>Wanted in Rome &#8211;<\/strong> Italy&#8217;s new tourism marketing campaign featuring Botticelli&#8217;s Venus as a &#8220;virtual influencer&#8221; has&nbsp;faced a wave of criticism, including from within the government,&nbsp;since its launch last Thursday.<\/p><p>The &#8220;Open to meraviglia&#8221; campaign features the Roman goddess of love wearing modern-day clothes, including a miniskirt, posing in front of various Italian landmarks holding a cell phone or a slice of pizza.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>The \u20ac9 million campaign, launched by tourism minister Daniela Santanch\u00e8 and Italy&#8217;s national tourism board ENIT, was slammed by the Italian culture undersecretary and outspoken art critic Vittorio Sgarbi.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure><p>\u201cSince Venus is naked, it would have been better to see her that way, without needing to dress her up like this&#8221;, Sgarbi told&nbsp;<em>La Repubblica<\/em>&nbsp;newspaper, describing the campaign as &#8220;the stuff of Ferragni&#8221;, (referring to social media influencer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wantedinrome.com\/news\/italy-chiara-ferragni-urges-followers-to-vote.html\">Chiara Ferragni<\/a>) and asking: &#8220;Open to meraviglia? What&#8217;s that about? What language is it?&#8221;<\/p><p>Italian newspaper&nbsp;<em>Il Fatto Quotidiano<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilfattoquotidiano.it\/in-edicola\/articoli\/2023\/04\/23\/santanche-lo-spot-venere-di-botticelli-e-il-made-in-italy-girato-in-slovenia\/7139262\/?fbclid=IwAR2wYxxPefCrhR5zwLDhEZokKNaaUxFtw8oEzriFRUh0YzlapVH6M0jJJO4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;over the weekend that one scene in the promotional video, featuring young people drinking wine in an outdoor setting, was filmed in Slovenia and came from a stock footage platform.<\/p><p>In addition, an Italian marketing company was quick to spot that the Open to meraviglia campaign was not registered with its own website and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketingtoys.it\/open-to-meraviglia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">promptly purchased the domain name<\/a>.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow aligncenter\" data-effect=\"slide\"><div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_container swiper-container\"><ul class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_swiper-wrapper
