The Independent –<\/em><\/strong> According to Gino D\u2019Acampo<\/a>, what\u2019s on the dinner <\/a>table is actually far less crucial than what\u2019s going on around it.<\/p>

The Italian chef, 45 \u2013 known for his tan, family-friendly recipes <\/a>and a certain level of moodiness \u2013 says at dinnertime the \u201ctalking is more important than the food<\/a>, to be honest with you, because there\u2019s no point having a great meal and everybody don\u2019t talk to each other. Or everybody is distracted watching television \u2013 that is not the way.\u201d<\/p>

The D\u2019Acampo household \u2013 the presenter and cookbook <\/a>author shares three children, Luciano, 19, Rocco, 16, Mia, 8, with wife Jessica \u2013 eat together at 8pm every night. <\/p>

\u201cWe don\u2019t have mobile phones or television on or radio or anything like that. My family knows that when we eat, there is no distraction,\u201d he explains. \u201cWe enjoy the meal, and we talk.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>

His kids never really had any choice when it came to appreciating food. \u201cMy wife is a great cook, I cook, so all our conversation, all our arguments, all our everything, always happens in the kitchen,\u201d he says intensely. The only rebellions he gets are when it\u2019s time to wash up \u2013 but, \u201cI have organised myself for that,\u201d he says with a laugh. \u201cI got two dishwashers in the kitchen, so nobody has any excuses.\u201d<\/p>
