Films like <em>Ferrari</em>, which will be distributed in 150 countries, promote Italy and Italian genius.”</p><figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="650" src="https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Andrea-Iervolino-producer-2-1024x650.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-6762" srcset="https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Andrea-Iervolino-producer-2-1024x650.jpg 1024w, https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Andrea-Iervolino-producer-2-600x381.jpg 600w, https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Andrea-Iervolino-producer-2-300x190.jpg 300w, https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Andrea-Iervolino-producer-2-768x487.jpg 768w, https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Andrea-Iervolino-producer-2-95x60.jpg 95w, https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Andrea-Iervolino-producer-2-142x90.jpg 142w, https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Andrea-Iervolino-producer-2.jpg 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Andrea Iervolino CREDIT: Daniele Venturelli/Getty Images for The Red Sea International Film Festival</figcaption></figure><p>The producer called on the Italian film industry to “make films based on stories that speak to the whole world, with international stars who work side by side with our own talent”.</p><p>In his original comments, Favino, who stars in a movie called&nbsp;<em>Comandante</em>&nbsp;which opened this year’s festival, asked why actors on the level of Toni Servillo (<em>The Great Beauty</em>) were not cast more often in Hollywood productions.</p><p>“There’s an issue of cultural appropriation,” Favino said.</p><p>“Instead, the parts are given to foreign actors who are distant from the story’s real protagonists, starting with the exotic accents,” he added. “If a Cuban can’t play a Mexican, why can an American play an Italian? It only happens with us. In another time (Vittorio) Gassman would have played <em>Ferrari</em>. Now, Driver does it and no one says anything.”</p><figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="696" height="442" src="https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Adam-Driver-main-new-696x442-2.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-6759" srcset="https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Adam-Driver-main-new-696x442-2.jpg 696w, https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Adam-Driver-main-new-696x442-2-600x381.jpg 600w, https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Adam-Driver-main-new-696x442-2-300x191.jpg 300w, https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Adam-Driver-main-new-696x442-2-94x60.jpg 94w, https://panoramitalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Adam-Driver-main-new-696x442-2-142x90.jpg 142w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /><figcaption>Adam Driver.
