Event Details

CIDIM, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death, supports the DANTE 700 International Composition Competition, jointly promoted by the Instrumental Chamber of the City of Prato and the Filharmonie – Philharmonic Orchestra of Florence.

The engine that gave life to this initiative lies in the word “symphony”, which entered the Italian language thanks to Dante’s Comedy, with the verse «la dolce sinfonia di Paradiso» (“the sweet symphony of Paradise”). This word has accompanied us until today and has made the work of these and many other orchestras in the world possible.

«La dolce sinfonia di Paradiso» is a project that aims to stimulate and promote creative energies in the field of orchestral composition by focusing on the figure and poetry of Dante Alighieri. The score in competition must be inspired by the Divine Comedy, freely drawing inspiration from a figure, an image, a character or a selection of verses.

The competition is open to composers of all nationalities and without age limits, and involves the composition of a symphonic piece lasting no more than 15 minutes. A prestigious international jury will follow the evaluation, selection and awarding phases of the compositions. The three scores selected for the final phase will be heard by the jury in a public performance in order to determine the winner.

The material must be received no later than midnight on July 31, 2021.
