To celebrate the Italian Food Week in the World, UQAM’s Design Center in partnership with the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal are organizing the exhibition called Un avant-goût de design italien! (A taste of Italian design!).
Two classic Italian design firms: Alessi and Smeg, famous for their original products and kitchenware around the world, will be highlighted for the occasion.
Established in Italy – respectively in Omegna in the Piedmont region and in Guastalla in Emilia-Romagna – Alessi and Smeg truly reflect the “made in Italy” brand. Their products have become icons and have contributed to the history of design through a perfect balance between Italian form and function, aesthetics and poetry and art and irony.
Proof of their fame and the quality of their products: Alessi recently celebrated its centenary in 2021 and Smeg will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2023.
