The Christmas fairytale in Locorotondo

Christmas in Locorotondo peeps very early, with grandiose preparations for what is considered the most popular holiday of the year: from November to finish until 21 February 2023. Every corner of the historic center, dominated by the characteristic houses with pointed roofs called cummerse, it is decorated with many decorations including snow crystals, bows, stars and Christmas balls. Walking through the alleys of Locorotondo at Christmas is like stepping into a bright fairytale forest, with hundreds of fir branches hanging from above, making the atmosphere magical and absolutely to be experienced.

There are many highlights of Christmas in Locorotondo, the most popular being the “Gnumeredde Suffuchete” Festival, which this year will take place on 18 and 19 November. The “gnumerèdde suffuchète” are rolls made with tripe and lamb entrails.

December in Locorotondo

Those who go to Locorotondo in December will be able to visit the huts of the inevitable Christmas market and the great Artistic Nativity of the Notarnicola family, a monumental work that extends over 100 square meters. There is also the Living Nativity at the Parish of San Giorgio Martire on January 1st.

One of the most evocative Christmas events in Locorotondo is the Night of Candles, programmed for which is very reminiscent of Swedish traditions and whose origins date back to the sixteenth century: in which the lights in the center will turn off to make room for candles and children’s parades who will accompany you inside the Mother Church.

During the Advent period, many tours are also organized to discover the beauties of Locorotondo, from the viewpoints with spectacular views over the Itria Valley to the Church of San Giorgio up to the baroque Palazzo Morelli and the ancient Church of the Madonna della Greca.
