The lead singer of Eurovision winners Måneskin did not take drugs during the grand final, an inquiry by organisers has concluded.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said Damiano David, frontman of the Italian rock group, had returned a negative result in a drugs test since the event on Saturday.
The band, who won with the song Zitti E Buoni, had “strongly refuted the allegations of drug use” that emerged on social media after David appeared to bend over a table in the contest’s green room while on camera.
A statement from the EBU said that following the allegations, as requested by the Italian delegation, it had conducted “a thorough review of the facts”, which included checking all available footage.

ROTTERDAM — The Italian band Maneskin celebrated its 2021 Eurovision win by the rock ’n’ roll playbook, with bare chests covered in tattoos, champagne spraying and the thuds of fireworks exploding.
The win was a close and deeply emotional one, with the band’s song, “Zitti e Buoni,” or “Shut Up and Be Quiet,” edging into first place in an exhilarating vote that was ultimately decided by the public. Maneskin barely beat France’s Barbara Pravi, and her chanson “Voilà.” After the victory, an Italian reporter was sobbing as tears streamed down his face.
Capturing what many felt, he said the victory was a fresh start for Italy. “It was a very difficult year for us,” the reporter, Simone Zani, said, talking about the devastating impact of the coronavirus. Explaining through his tears, he said, “We are from the north of Italy, from Bergamo,” an Italian city with record numbers of Covid-19 deaths. “To be No. 1 now, this is a new start for us, a new beginning.”

La prestation qui a valu au groupe de rock italien Maneskin de remporter l’Eurovision 2021 semble déjà balayée par une polémique sur les réseaux sociaux selon laquelle son chanteur, Damiano David, aurait consommé de la cocaïne durant la cérémonie. Le dépistage auquel il a accepté de se soumettre n’a pourtant pas décelé de trace de consommation de drogue, selon un communiqué publié lundi soir par l’Union européenne de radio-télévision (UER).
La polémique avait enflé alors qu’une vidéo devenue virale montrait le chanteur, sans que les images soient claires, dans une posture assimilée par certains internautes à une prise de cocaïne. D’autres commentateurs, photos à l’appui, estiment en fait que le chanteur se serait penché après avoir cassé le verre dans lequel il était en train de boire.
Le groupe de rock italien Måneskin remporte l’Eurovision dans la tourmente
ICIRadioCanada – Un groupe de musique rock de l’Italie a remporté le concours Eurovision dimanche. Les quatre membres du groupe rock Måneskin ont damé le pion aux traditionnelles ballades, paillettes et rythmes disco.
Le concours Eurovision de la chanson était de retour cette année, après l’annulation de l’événement en 2020 à cause de la pandémie de COVID-19.
Il s’est déroulé dans un aréna de Rotterdam aux Pays-Bas, devant un public restreint et sous des règles très strictes liées aux mesures sanitaires. Les 3500 spectateurs et spectatrices ont dû obtenir un résultat négatif au test de la COVID-19 pour voir les finalistes sur scène.
La victoire du groupe Måneskin procure un troisième titre à l’Italie à ce concours de musique très populaire. Le pays y avait remporté les honneurs en 1964 grâce à la chanson Non ho l’età (per amarti), de Gigliola Cinquetti, puis en 1990, avec la victoire du chanteur et compositeur italien Toto Cutugno et de sa chanson Insieme: 1992.
